Can’t Catch Me

Tactical Focus:
Avoid Getting Out
Set up course as in diagram and place a soft gator or foam ball on the top of the middle pylon.
One partner stands on home base and the other partner at the farthest cone.
Partner at home base walks toward middle cone and then goes around the cone and sprints for home once they go once around the middle cone.
Partner at farthest cone begins to run towards the middle cone once the other player starts to go around the middle cone.
Once he/she reaches the middle cone, he/she picks up the ball from the top of the cone and attempts to throw the ball and hit the home pylon before the runner gets back to home base.
Thrower can NOT hit the runner with the ball and the runner may not guard the home base from being hit.
Switch roles.

Place object (e.g. ball) on the middle cone to be retrieved.
Partner at last cone uses a pool noodle to tag.
Change distance between pylons.
Rather than throw the ball, the person at the opposite pylon must tag the person with the ball before the runner reaches home base.

What running route should you take to round the middle pylon and get back to the home pylon quickly?
Try to "round the middle pylon" tightly and take a straight pathway back home base.
Pivot quickly at the base and quickly try to generate speed.

Change locomotor patterns: Players can power walk, skip, hop, leap, etc.
Draw a square in front of home base, which will be a "safe area" where players can go and not be tagged.
Use potato sacks to practice jumping from one pylon to another.
Decrease the distance between home base and the middle cone.
Use scooter boards if playing inside.

Turning (pivot)

Preparation Phase: Keep eyes focused ahead (do not give away which way you are heading too early)

Execution Phase: Plant foot and spin on toes 180 degrees. Use upper body to help twist quickly to turn and face the opposite direction. Push off in the desired direction of travel with knee bent in an L shape(this planted foot will be the grounded structure which one's body will turn around).

Follow Through Phase: Lean head and upper body towards the new direction of travel (body looks like slanted ropes attached to a pole) and gradually assume a more upright position after pushing off wiht the back foot.
